RACF Training Package

A primary focus for Palliative Care Tasmania (PCT) in 2019 is to provide education to staff in residential aged care facilities (RACFs) across the State.

Why do this?

Increasing skills, knowledge and understanding on palliative and end of life issues builds compassionate, supportive communities through greater understanding of local services, options available and reduces stress on families and loved ones when care wishes are expressed at end of life.

In our submission to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety’s terms of reference consultation in September 2018, we highlighted the need for a strong focus on the provision of palliative and end of life care in the industry. We know many providers across Tasmania are doing fantastic work in this space, but there is always room to improve.

In 2019, PCT are providing all RACFs the opportunity to receive two (2) 2.5 hour education sessions on the topics of their choice, plus one (1) FREE 1 hour session on the National Palliative Care Standards and the Tasmanian Palliative Care Community Charter, and how they interact and work together with the new and existing Aged Care Quality Standards to guide overall care.

Costs for the two (2) sessions:

  • Members: $480
  • Non- Members: $560

We have educated thousands of Tasmanians over the years, including many from the aged care sector. CEOs, registered nurses, carers, volunteers and occupational therapists from the industry have all participated in our education.
