The Gift of Comfort: Supporting Peacock One Through Community Care
Palliative Care Tasmania is proud to support the Gift of Comfort project, a community-led initiative created in partnership with the team at Peacock One, a combined geriatric rehabilitation and palliative care ward on Davey Street in Hobart.
While Peacock One supports older patients to regain strength and independence, it also provides gentle, dignified care for people nearing the end of life. The team has shared how much comfort can be found in the simplest things, soft lighting, a warm quilt, calming scents and familiar personal items. These small touches can make a hospital room feel more peaceful and welcoming for patients and families during a deeply significant time.
The Gift of Comfort project aims to transform clinical spaces into calmer, more homely environments by providing non-clinical comfort items that are not covered by government funding. Palliative Care Tasmania is inviting local groups, businesses and community members to take part by gifting new items from the wish list or contributing funds to help complete it.
The project offers a meaningful way for the community to give back by helping create spaces that offer warmth, dignity and comfort when it matters most.
We invite knitting clubs, local businesses and our generous community to come together in support of this initiative. Alongside the Peacock One team, we have created a simple wish list. You can choose to purchase an item from the list or make a small contribution so we can purchase items where needed.
