Grief Education at PCT
Grief is a universal experience, but many people feel unprepared to understand it, talk about it, or support others through it.
Palliative Care Tasmania is leading a public health approach to grief education, building grief literacy across communities, workplaces and services. Our work focuses on normalising grief, strengthening confidence and creating environments where people feel better equipped to respond to loss.
Over the past three years, our Grief and Loss Programs have grown significantly, with Tasmania now recognised as a national leader in grief literacy education and resource development.
We continue to expand our education and resource offerings to reach new audiences. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to PCT directly.
Current Grief and Loss Training Offerings
Learning Through Loss - For schools and people working with children and young people.
Learning Through Loss is a Tasmanian-designed grief education session that builds the capacity of professionals supporting children and young people. This foundational training is designed for anyone working with children or young people, regardless of their role. Rather than adding to your workload, it offers practical, compassionate approaches that can be integrated into the support you already provide.
Supporting Through Loss - For professionals supporting people.
Supporting Through Loss is a specialised training designed for professionals across diverse settings who support individuals experiencing grief. Whether you’re in healthcare, community services, aged care, administration, or any other role, everyone has a part to play in supporting others through loss. This session offers a supportive space to reflect on your role in grief support - both its strengths and its boundaries.
Living Through Loss - For community
Living Through Loss is a supported community conversation about the normal and challenging experience of grief. Grief is something we all experience, yet most of us were never taught about it at school or at home. It can be hard to understand and even harder to talk about. This session offers a chance to learn more about grief in a safe and supportive space, while sharing food and a cuppa.
Building a Grief Literate Community
Our approach is grounded in evidence, shaped by lived experience and designed to be practical and accessible.
We work across the community and sector to:
- Build understanding of grief and loss
- Strengthen confidence to support others
- Reduce stigma and silence around grief
- Provide tools, resources and education that can be applied in real-world settings
This is about shifting how we respond to grief as a community, not just as individuals.
Inclusive Grief Education
We are committed to ensuring our work is inclusive and responsive to diverse communities.
A dedicated project is underway to strengthen grief education for LGBTIQA+ communities, including statewide consultation and resource development.
Our grief education programs are designed to be practical, evidence-informed and accessible.
We encourage you to explore available programs and resources, take part in training and stay connected as this work continues to grow.
