Palliative Care Tasmania’s Speaker Series is a mix of local national and international industry experts covering specialty palliative and end-of-life topics.

Speakers are selected to inform both the sector and the community and include presentations from professionals, interactive sessions, and robust conversations.

Guest Speaker: Lisa Caswell (TAS)

Topic: Voluntary Assisted Dying in Tasmania

Voluntary assisted dying is due to commence in Tasmania by 23 October 2022 following the passage of the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021 through Parliament last year.

Simon Castles and Lisa Caswell from the Tasmanian Department of Health will discuss the implementation of voluntary assisted dying in Tasmania.

Lisa will outline the fundamentals of how the law will work in Tasmania, and what everyone including those working in end-of-life care will need to be aware of. Simon will explain the role of the Navigation Service in assisting Tasmanian people, practitioners, and facilities to navigate voluntary assisted dying in Tasmania.

You will hear about the systems, services and resources that will be available to practitioners, people, and their families in relation to voluntary assisted dying.
