Pam's Story

This is Me Pam

“I hope that other people can draw comfort from me sharing my journey.”

I was diagnosed in 2022 with melanoma.

The melanoma tumour was removed, and I underwent intensive radiation with severe side effects that saw me re-admitted to hospital for care.

Fortunately, I went into remission but suffered fractures in my spine from the radiation.

At the beginning of 2024, I had a routine PET (positron emission tomography) scan with the results showing cancer in my liver and spine. It was entirely devastating and shocking to learn that I likely have only weeks/months to live, and that my care plan is palliative.

It has only been 1 ½ weeks since this diagnosis so my journey with palliative care is a new one.

The shock is profound, and my life has certainly been turned upside down.

The love and support of my family and friends combined with my faith is buoying me through.

Having these precious moments captured in photographs for myself and my family is very important to me. I want my family to be able to look back on these happy memories we shared together.

I hope participating in this project assists in raising awareness of this beautiful opportunity for other families going through similar tough times. I have found it very helpful to read about other people’s experiences who have been in similar circumstances as it has made me feel less alone and less different.

I hope that other people can draw comfort from me sharing my journey.

Sadly, Pam passed away in August 2024. We are deeply grateful to her and her family for their kindness and generosity in sharing her story with us, in the hope that it will offer comfort and support to others.

Rest peacefully, Pam.
