Today PCT and Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation – ANMF Tasmanian Branch among other voices in the community, were invited by Mike Gaffney MLC to speak to the Legislative Council on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill being considered.

We recognise that the topic of voluntary assisted dying raises difficult and complex issues for our Members. A decision about whether or not to legalise voluntary assisted dying is one for our government. PCT neither advocates for, nor argues against the legalisation of voluntary assisted dying. Patients should, and will, still get the best possible care until they die. Our contribution was to ensure the discussion included the views of our Members and to reiterate the ongoing need to support our specialist and community palliative care workforce through this process too.
